Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how to make us delete it. Short version: an email address if you give us one, and nothing else we control.
Last updated: 17 August 2026. This policy explains what personal information WeBuyTheHype collects, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. It applies to webuythehype.com and any subdomain.
The short version
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and use it to send you that newsletter. That is the only personal information we ask you for. We do not sell, rent or share it. Everything else described below is either automatic technical data our hosting provider records, or data collected by third parties when you choose to click a link away from our site.
1. Who we are
WeBuyTheHype is the data controller for information collected through this site. You can reach us at privacy@webuythehype.com, or via our contact page. Our publisher details appear in the footer of every page.
2. Information you give us
Newsletter email address. Our newsletter form appears on most pages. If you enter your email address and submit it, we collect that address and nothing else — no name, no phone number, no demographic data. We use it for one purpose: sending the WeBuyTheHype newsletter. Our lawful basis is your consent, given when you submit the form.
You may withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by emailing us. Withdrawal takes effect promptly and we delete the address from our active list.
Correspondence. If you email us — a correction, a question, a story tip — we keep that message and your address so we can reply and so we have a record of corrections. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to and correcting our published work.
3. Information collected automatically
This site is a static site served by Cloudflare. Like effectively every web host, Cloudflare records standard server log data when your browser requests a page: IP address, approximate location derived from it, browser and device type, referring page, and the time of the request. This is used for delivering the site, security and abuse prevention, and aggregate traffic statistics. We do not use it to build a profile of you and we do not attempt to identify individual visitors from it.
Cloudflare may set a security cookie to distinguish legitimate visitors from automated traffic. We do not set advertising or tracking cookies of our own. We do not run third-party advertising networks on this site.
4. Affiliate links and third parties
Many pages contain affiliate links to Amazon and, occasionally, direct links to other vendors. When you click one, you leave our site and the destination's own privacy policy and cookies apply, not ours. Amazon will typically set a cookie identifying that you arrived through our affiliate tag, which is how any commission is attributed.
We receive only aggregate, anonymised reporting from Amazon — totals of clicks and orders. We do not receive your name, address, payment details, or a list of what you bought. See Amazon's Privacy Notice for what they collect.
Fonts and stylesheets are served from our own domain rather than a third-party CDN, so loading a page does not disclose your visit to a font provider. Product images are loaded from retailer and manufacturer image servers, which means those servers receive a request from your browser when a page displays them.
5. How long we keep things
Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe, or until the newsletter ceases, whichever comes first. Email correspondence is kept for up to three years so that we can honour and evidence corrections. Server logs are retained by our hosting provider on their own schedule, typically a matter of days.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent.
If you are in the EU or UK, these rights arise under the GDPR and you may complain to your national data protection authority.
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months. We do not knowingly process sensitive personal information.
To exercise any right, email privacy@webuythehype.com. We will respond within thirty days and will not discriminate against you for asking.
7. Children
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their email address, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security and international transfers
We keep the personal information we hold to a minimum, which is the most effective security measure available to us. Our site and email infrastructure are operated by providers in the United States, so if you contact us from outside the US your information will be transferred there. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes affecting how we use information you have already given us will be announced in the newsletter itself.
